Why won't you bail me out, do you care about me, or do you love me? Sarah Cortez writes Tu Negrito it refers to someone who is begging to get bailed out of jail. From line one "she's got to bail me out" (1) to the last lines "tell her I love her. She's got to bail me out"(28) Cortez is begging someone to bail him out of jail. Cortez provides direct information in the poem stating the situation of the matter. Anlaylizing line by line Cortez gives more and more information on who he is speaking with, who he wants to bail him out, and provides the reader with an idea on how critically he wishes to get bonded out.

The first two lines Cortez starts the poem "Tu Negrito" off by saying "she's got to bail me out" (1), and "he says into the phone outside the holding cell" (2). This leaves a reader wonder who is Cortez speaking of. When Cortez expresses of bailing out and a holding cell a readers mind automatically points to someone that is in jail. He is pointing out that he is in incarcerated and he needs her to bail him out. After the first line the reader is left with the question of who is "she"? Cortez states in the first line "she"; she has to be a very significant person in the poem. He needs this "she" to bail him out. Cortez refers to his mother as "she." He needs his mother to bail him out of jail. So far in the poem we know that he is in jail and in a holding cell asking someone to ask his mom to bail him out of jail. That someone that he is talking to on the phone he refers to as cousin later in the poem. He is begging his cousin to ask his mom to bail him out of jail.

In the next line the reader says "she's going there tomorrow anyway for Mikey" (3). Now the first question that comes to the reader head is who is Mikey? In the next line Cortez says "tell her she's got to do this for me" (4). His mom has to go down to the jail and bail Mikey out tomorrow, Cortez feels as if she can bail him out also. He stress the fact that "she's got to do this for me" (4), because he needs her. Mikey is his brother Cortez needs to make his mom feel guilty because she bonds out one son all the time, but not the other.

Lines five, six, seven, and eight Cortez is begging his cousin to beg his to bail him out of jail he uses all types of methods in order to convince his cousin to convince his mom to bail him out of jail. In the sixth line Cortez wants his mother to feel guilty about no bailing him out. Line five states "make sure she listens. Make her feel guilty, man" (5). He is begging his cousin to make his mom listen and make her feel guilty. Make her feel guilty by thinking about not bailing him out or make him feel guilty about him being in jail? He tells his cousin that "she can have all my money, man" (7). Cortez feels if he bribes his mom by saying that he will give her all of his money she will rethink bailing him out of jail. He explains over and over again while standing outside of the holding cell that she has to do this for him and that he wants to feel guilty that he is in jail and she is not bailing him out.
