Background
Mr. Lam is the owner of H&M Fashion, with its main business in the trading of garment such as lady's soft dressing from Mainland of China to Australia, Germany and UK. H&M Fashion was established more than 10 years ago, and the number of employees has increased from 5 to about 30 now. Its Guangzhou factory's office now also has more than 10 staff. This mean H&M Fashion is growing from a small company to a medium-sized enterprise. In the mean time, the company has been buying more IT equipment.
Mr. Alex is responsible for computer management. He is in-house IT support, but he did not receive any formal education on computing or information systems in college. So he still finds it difficult to manage issues related to ICT. We realize the fundamental problem of H&M is actually human resources, and not just information and communications technology (ICT). All information systems (IS) involve end-users, including their design, construction and operation. Typically include users at different ranks, such as directors, general managers, supervisors and officers from different department.
We would like to source a mini-sized tablet for our department. The tablet PC will be shared among our colleagues for text, voice and video communications when they are on business trips. General business apps and cloud computing features would add advantages.
Business needs
5 criteria for choosing a phablet device that suits the company's business needs.
1. Call quality
- Voice call quality is most important, as the phablet will be shared with the colleagues to make the long-distance voice call when they are on oversea business trips.
2. Portability
- You may know the phabletare large-screen devices, which is why they are heavier than the usual smartphones. They may look glamourous in the first instance but talking on them for long can be really tiring. So portability is one of factor to be considered.
3. Hardware performance
- Durable build and scratch-resistant screen are really important. Corning Gorilla Glass has become a norm these days.
4. Power endurance
- It's bigger screen and size, therefore it should carry a bigger battery inside. The first Note had 2500 mAh Li-ion battery, which has been increased to a whooping 3100 mAh in Note II. Though, any data regarding talk-time, standby time, etc. is not provided officially. It might not be an ideal device for many people because of its massive size. Some people just need a smart-phone, not a smart-phablet.
5. Mobile Internet speed
- Speeds are lightning fast. Don't forget, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is LTE compatible (if you get the right version - because many providers are offering the standard HSDPA+ flavour by default), but just browsing over Wi-Fi or good old HSDPA is quick as a flash too
