The defining features of motion pictures are many things such as their cost, they are dominated by big conglomerates, it is described as a art form, and it enhances social experiences and gives people of all types to have something to do.

What caused the rise of the Motion Picture Patents Company was the use of bootlegged equipment by independent film makers to keep up with the big film makers. The fall of the MPPC was caused by them going into a war with the film distributors and causing film makers to sell it to the distributors for cheaper.

The film industry reacted to television with a competitive attitude, using gimmicks such as 3-d movies, making screens bigger, and put movies on about stuff that television could not.

The tree main segments of the motion picture industry are production, distribution, and exhibition facets.
