In the article once more to the lake, the writer E.B White reminisces about his childhood days going camping with his father to a lake in Maine. This was a personal article about the writers life experiences centered on the idea of Mortality and how life changes with time. Vacations at the lake were a generational activity in his family in the sense that the writer's father used to be taken to the lake by his granddad; his father took him there as a young child and now he is taking his son to the same place. The thoughts of good times during his visits as a child were still fresh, not much has changed as to the features of the lake other than the technology which seems to have irritated him. The years seemed to not have passed at all but the writer cannot help but think about how his role has changed over the years. As he stated in his article that going back to the lake with his son sustained him the illusion that his son was him and therefor by simple transposition he was his father. This made him feel as though that he was living a dual existence. Now his father and grandfather are deceased, the thought of this tradition continuing in generations to come as family members die and new ones are welcomed raises the issue of mortality. Death as a phenomenon that comes with nature keeps constantly echoing in the writers mind even though things seems the same physically, peoples roles change with the passage of time.
