Microtheme #1
In 2009 there were 50.7 million people in the US (16.7% of the population) who were without health insurance. (U.S. Census Burrow) That is a large number. How can Canada, France and Britain all have free health care? The answer is simple they made a choice to pay higher taxes so in return have free health care. The question that presides in my head is, is it really free health care? According to Michael Moore in the movie "Sicko", every resident of the US must have free, universal health care for life, all health care companies must be abolished, and pharmaceutical companies must be strictly regulated like a public facility. How can this be possible? Nothing in this country is free. It is a cost for someone or something to thrive in an economy. I believe that we should continue to have out health care system we do have but revamp it a little bit. I don't want the federal government to tell me how to spend my money. Two- thirds of U.S. health care money, approximately $1.8 trillion, goes purely to salaries and wages! I don't believe our US government is organized enough to handle everyone's money. If that's how they send out money its no wonder we don't have a health care system like other countries.
In addition to the government I also believe Michael Moore is not a credible source. He made a movie through facts that the audience thought was true, but in reality many were not. France and Britain may have Universal Health Care, but when it comes to a cost they pay taxes up the wazoo!
