Two step path strategic’s implementation is the most important part. Strategic implementation needs to connect theory of two step path and real scenario of the organization. Core points of two step path are meeting effectiveness and alignment. Furthermore, effectiveness tightly connect with annual revenue of an organization. Consequently, enhancing effectiveness is going front of the alignment.
To reinforcing effectiveness, there are three core principals to follow to avoid alignment trap. Firstly, keeping the IT function system simple is one of key factors. In order to simplify, it emphasizes that do not upgrade the system routinely and blindly. On one hand, one of the common mistakes that companies are making is improving the system regularly, regardless any change of the status. As doing this, companies ignore the changing situation of the organization and business environment. As a result, they will fall behind by others due to overlay on the legacy system. On the other hand, committing a mistake and learning from it is better than merely follow former steps. As the organization realizes the mistake, they could take action immediately to implement and correct to the right step. However, if the organization already upgraded and utilized the legacy system, they are hard and time-consuming to react from the mistake. They need a longer time to correct their previous error. Also, it is more money consuming by choosing a wrong system to invest. Secondly, Choosing the right source also has an immense impact on effectiveness. Effective IT system is requiring to provide innovative application and help desks to work. Due to rising development of technology industry, abundant low cost IT specialists and talents are offering in the market. Selecting the right one becomes complex and pivotal. Internal corporate development apartment always makes a great contribution to an organization’s value. In-house development creates competitive differentiation to the enterprise compare to competitors. Also, Selecting which innovate applications need be proprietary is affecting the right source capabilities. Those contributing a high volume of improvement to the enterprise.
Finally, Linking IT business system to delivery also is a crucial procedure to be done. To enhance effectiveness, delivery has to meet certain criteria, such as delivery on time, low cost and functionally match the business needs. Besides, IT system is widely used to communicate with delivery. Also, it can measure and supervise the delivery procedures carefully. IT system is indispensably linked with the value delivery. Consequently, IT needs to be scheduled at appropriate processes, goals, and resources to reinforce effectiveness.
To improve alignment, some of the organizations overlay on the elder legacy system. IT organizations keep investing money on the elder system to align, which falling to alignment trap. In order to avoid alignment trap, IT organizations do not upgrade the system blindly. The company needs to check the IT organizations regularly, and deciding whether to use the old system and investing money or changing a new system. Enterprise need to select high-performance IT organizations to meet the business objective. If enterprise using poor performance IT organizations match the right purpose, it will not get the goal to accomplish. It reveals the importance of alignment business goal to IT organizations.
