What began a nonprofit school for agricultural studies, Stony Filed grew to become a successful yogurt business (Stony Field Inc., 2011) determined to only put out healthy products, helping aid in healthy people, and a healthy world. Stony Field started something called profit for the planet that they donate 10% of As of 2011 they have donated 12 million dollars too and help charities such as American Dietetic Association, BreastCancer.org, and Healthy Child Healthy World, this is to name but a few organizations they have helped in turn aiding in the planets needs to restore it. Gary Hirshberg is the head executive officer, president, and sits as a chair person as part of Stony Field. Before Hirshberg joined the company he was a builder of wind mills, activist, and exclaimed author. His beliefs are strong and prevalent shinning through are a great deal of his traits from partaking in an activist group and caring about nature and his style of managing the employees. Writing a book solely on sustainability and being able to save the planet and make a profit at the same time he is a perfect match for Stony Field, and they have done just that. Mr. Hirshberg has a firm conviction for a strong sustainable culture in the organization, and a focus in greener business, changing of the climate, and an emphasis on the natural culture of organic, and in the midst of that creating an economy of sustainability and growth. This man concentrates on every business decision made and makes certain that environment is taken into consideration.

Gary sister also works for Stony Field as VP of natural resources and has worked there for 20 years. According to her being able to come up with new ways of becoming sustainable is more rewarding and fulfilling than anything she has done previously in her career. She make a statement on the website that says "It is rare that anyone ever has an opportunity to make a giant leap toward creating a greener economy and moving off that substance called oil" Every department is involved in some way of achieving the goal of the company of sustainability. The company calls upon every employee to achieve the goal and look toward the future of getting non-sustainable ways. The teams are research and development, purchasing, natural resource, and engineering tying it together coming up with new ways creating and building a brighter and sustainable economy in it organizations, consumers, and the environment can prosper.
Hirshberg Sustainable Culture
Mr. Hirshberg knows in order to create a sustainable culture; he has to be willing to pick apart Stony Field and how the organization is run, and how they conduct business and a day - to - day basis, which is not easy to take in. Each part of process is taken into consideration as a possible impact of products to the earth as part of the sustainable business process. The company has specific teams made up of employees of which come up with goals to put in place to lower the company's carbon footprint. The company has lowered their greenhouse gas emissions 48% along with lowering their total global warming 9% made possible by replacing the ways they package the product, increasing the standards creating a sustainable packaging by using bio-plastics, which has saved on average 3.2 million dollars a year.
Stony Field has also achieved something that Mr. Hirshberg thinks is amazing, reducing carbon emissions reducing transportation by 46% from 06 to 2010. This might not seem like a big deal to most but from this has encouraged Stony Fields customers to increase their purchase orders each month to reduce to unnecessary deliveries each month. This transposes the feeling of helping the environment to the customer. Under Mr. Hirshberg's guidance, not only has Stony Filed reduced their carbon footprint from this business model he has saved the company on an annual basis an average of 7.6 million dollars; Stony Filed has also been able to lower the solid waste and misused energy consumption, along with 11%-39% of the green house gas from 07-2010. Through this the company has a total savings of two million and annually 450,000.
