I am always excited but also nervous during the start of every semester. I would be able to see my friends again but my responsibilities would also show up. Good thing that my gadgets would be available at my disposal to help me accomplish my responsibilities.
Online enlistment has become a culture in UPLB. Long gone were the manual registration where students line up for slots. Today, they can do it in the comforts of their home. The student’s life revolves around SystemOne during the enlistment period. They discuss strategies and techniques on how to get slots during the “Hunger Games”. Rants from students are expected in social media. But this time, the online enlistment has been very fast and efficient. No crashes or lag was experienced. Sir Bulacs was again the hero of the students. Luckily for me, the gods of SystemOne provided me with full units, thus exempting me from the “Hunger Games”.
This week has been a breeze. Professors are not yet starting their lectures, students still hoping for slots, and atmosphere is still chill. Just like before, I went straight to Mineski and played my heart out. Computer games greatly affected my life. It became my escape from my reality as a student with many homework to be done and quizzes to be studied for. It made my every childhood dream come true; becoming a hero. Clicking on the icon, introduces you to a magical world. Fighting amongst your allies, you thrive to become stronger and ultimately, defeat the enemy hero. I can feel the thrill and excitement crawling up my spine every time I click on the game icon.
Meanwhile my life in our home at Cavite is very different. My parents are reluctant to technology because they believe that it is more damaging than being beneficial. Some people are still afraid of these advances because they do not know what the technology is really about or how can they get hold of it. This is where science communicators comes in. They explain the technology into simpler terms to be easily understood by the common public. They also help link the technology to those who does not have it. What I did was to read books by James Patterson. He is a very good fiction writer. Another one is John Grisham. His legal thriller books always kept me glued to his books. The lawyer in me is being awakened.
The semester is just starting and I am hoping that everything will go well. I am hoping for the best.
