Consider how imaginative techniques are used by media products from your cross- media study to attract and maintain audiences?

There are a variety of ways that imaginative techniques have been used in recent media platforms to enhance the interest and interactivity of the audience. As we are approaching an age of new media it is vital for institutions to know how to target their audience accurately and achieve their goal by exploiting the popularity of new media amongst the audience.

Convergence is the process by which existing technologies merge into new forms that bring together different types of media and applications. New devices and technology are usually now merged into one medium. Through technological convergence, devices can interact with a wider array of media types. For example, With an iPhone a social networking app such as Facebook or twitter can be downloaded, through this films such as the hunger games can create a page which can now be accessed through any device that has internet on it. This way less items will have to be carried and it is therefore easier to follow the latest news about the film. However with new Media rapidly developing gadgets such as Home 3D televisions are being produced. This has negatives and positives for example it is now easier to access to any desired movie through Film sites such as Lovefilm and Netflix however the numbers of people attending the cinea will decrease. This is fine with films that are widely advertised through social networking and broadcasts like Twilight but with niche films such as Kidulthood it is not as successful. This is because Kidulthood was aimed at a specific target audience and had a very low budget of 600,000 so as much publication as possible was needed.

Furthermore through the common use of synergy, which is the interaction or cooperation of two or more organizations to promote products or any new material that needs to be sold or advertised effectively. This is done very well with the Twilight website. Summit entertainment make a film with the funding of Lionsgate (as they are a subsidiary) Twilight soundtrack is then released by atlantic records and sold on iTunes. This is then incorporated and linked to the website so everyone visiting the website will easily be directed to iTunes. Furthermore the film can also be downloaded on Netflix and watched on gadgets such as Ipads, laptops and other androids.

Moreover Twilight have a YouTube channel where they put on their latest interviews, behind the scenes, and the general making of the film gaining further subscribers and increasing their fanbase by making it widespread. YouTube videos can then be linked on blogs, pages, or fan made websites. This is now simply done with the introduction of web 2.0. Web 2.0 is the term given to describe a second generation of the World Wide Web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online.
