This is the leading security protocol for data transfer on the Internet. The SSL uses a cryptographic system that uses two keys to encrypt data a public key known to everyone and a private or secret key known only to the recipient of the message. The SSL certificate is a trusted root certificate established, globally recognized certificate authority. The SSL protocol is designed to be as efficient as securely possible. However, encryption and decryption are computationally expensive processes from a performance standpoint. Pages that might require a secure connection include login pages, personal information pages, shopping cart checkouts, or any pages where credit card information could possibly be transmitted.
Only a few number of Browsers support SSL, which are IE version 4 and up, Netscape Navigator 4 and up, Mozilla 1.5 and up, or AOL 6.0 and up', many of these web sites use the protocol to obtain confidential user information, such as credit card numbers."(Queen 2010).
