Introduction
This paper will demonstrate the Gartner Magic Quadrant for IT Service Support Management tools. It includes the background of two companies one of them is leader (Microsoft), visionary company (SAP), Advantages/strength and disadvantage/weakness of each company, why they are leader or visionaries.
Background of Microsoft
Microsoft is an American technology company in Redmond, Washington that supports the invention of productions, licenses goods and computing services. The founders of Microsoft are Paul Allen and Bill Gates April 4, 1975. Allen and Gates skipped classes to live in their school's computer room. They hacked the school's computer and were caught but rather than abolishing them from the school they were chosen to improve the computer’s performance in the school.
Their first journey started when Gates and Allen run their own small business called Traf-O-Data and where they sold computers to the city of Seattle for counting the city traffic (Bellis, 2017).
According to Curtis, In January 1975 Paul Allen showed Bill Gates article that talk about the Altair .Gates called MITS (Micro Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems), the founders of Altair, and offered to write a version of the new BASIC program language for Altair. Within eight weeks, they were able to demonstrate their program to MITS. Altair agreed to buy their program then allocate and market the program and they called it Altair BASIC (2014)
The first international office was opened in Japan and they called it ASCII Microsoft. Gates was the President and the chairman of the company while Allen was the Executive VP (Microsoft Research, 2006)
Background of SAP (Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing)
Based on the official website of the company, SAP is the fifth largest independent software producer and the largest producer of standard enterprise-wide business applications. The company provides variety of services such as, financial accounting, human resources, plant maintenance, materials management, sales and distribution, and business workflow (Boveri, 2017)
Dietmar Hopp, Klaus Tschira, Hans-Werner Hector, Hasso Plattner, and Claus Wellenreuther were working with IBM Company. They developed mainframe programs that allow the company store their data locally rather than using the punch card mechanically. However, the company informed them that their project is no longer necessary to be used in the company. They decided to leave IBM Tech and start with another company rather than annulling their project as a private partnership under the German Civil Code (Hamm &Steve,1995)
