In the passage Mary Magdalene was a devoted friend and disciple of Jesus whom she loved. She departed from early before daybreak to visits Jesus on first day. As she arrives at tomb filled with joy and expectation to see Jesus but he is not there. Mary emotions begins to take control filled with grief and sorrow she runs to let other disciples and Peter who Jesus loved know about Jesus not being present tomb. (John 20:1-2) The disciples that walked closely with hurriedly followed Mary back to tomb to witness what she has seen with her own eyes and to declare Jesus resurrection. The other disciples who first to arrive at tomb suddenly was gripped with fear and was afraid to go in to see him. Peter on the other has was like his right hand man who he loved dearly was not afraid. He witness all the linen that was left behind but no Jesus. Peter believed this was evidence that Jesus has risen. (John 3-10) Jesus appeared to Mary immediately after she talked with angels, "she stood outside of tomb crying." The angels was sent to comfort and bear witness of the truth Jesus is alive but not in the flesh. (John 20:11) Then they asked "woman why are you crying?"(John 20:13) Mary should be rejoicing at this point but it's hard to control her emotions while she is still mourning the loss of him not being there in tomb. Mary was caught up in her emotions that she turned her head to look at whom she was talking to and she thought Jesus was the gardener.(John 20:16) She does not realize Jesus presence until he calls her name that's when she recognize his voice. Mary is like most of us we live by sight and do not have faith when we cannot see otherwise. As believers of Jesus we fall short blessing when we refuse to dig deep within our spirit to see what trying to be revealed unto us. Jesus resurrection day is a time we gather together to acknowledge that Jesus died to rise again in spirit for our sins.
