Mark's Gospel

Marks gospel is a literary form that describes and summarizes the spiritual life of the Son of God. The gospel explains Jesus' life for all to hear. Marks gospel helps people understand not only the physical life of Jesus but the spiritual life as well. Marks gospel explains Jesus' miracles too. Two passages from this gospel are explained in the literal and spiritual meaning me. One other passage helps me know Jesus better.

Marks gospel does not tell the story of Jesus' birth or childhood. The gospel begins with Jesus' earlier adulthood and his baptism by John. John the Baptist who predicts Jesus' coming performs Jesus' baptism. After Jesus is baptized Satan tests him and he passes. Jesus then begins his travel to Galilee where he collects his disciples. Jesus tells the fishermen that are there that they will become fishers of men if they follow him, so they do. In Galilee, Jesus performs many miracles that surprise crowds. There in Galilee, Jesus also preaches. Jesus performs miracles such as healing a paralytic. Jesus also cures one of his disciples, Simon's, mother-in-law from sickness. Later, when Jesus was plotted against to be killed, he began to focus on his ministry. Jesus' acts attract crowds of people, but it also caused people to misunderstand and reject him. Jesus then begins to have super natural powers. Some of his elaborate miracles are like when he settles a storm. Jesus also cures a man possessed by a demon, and gives life back to a dead young girl. Jesus then disperses his apostles to spread the new and to preach. When the apostles and Jesus come back together, people come from all over to hear and see Jesus. With all of the surrounding people present, Jesus divides five loaves of bread and two fish to feed the whole crowd of people. Jesus' next miracle is when he walks on water in which he stuns many including his own disciples. With his miracles at work, Jesus raises question to the Pharisees. The Pharisees are upset that Jesus had abounded the traditional Jewish laws. Jesus responds that it is important to obey the spirit of the law rather than the technicality. Jesus begins to travel through northern Palestine, where he heals a deaf man. Although the other disciples are misunderstanding of Jesus' miracles, peter really recognizes the significance of Jesus' actions and his divinity. Jesus begins to foresee his crucifixion and decides to focus on preaching. Jesus then goes to Jerusalem where he drives money collector from the temple. In the temple, Jesus preaches to the local people. Jesus ends up going to supper with his disciples (the Last Supper) where he tells them that one of them will betray him. After supper Jesus goes to the garden where he prays until Judas come to get him with the high priest to arrest him. Jesus is given to Pontius Pilate where he decides to crucify him.
