- AN INTRODUCTION TO MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS AND ITS BUSINESS
Headquartered in Chicago, Motorola Solutions, Inc. is an American data communications and telecommunications equipment provider and a subsidy of Motorola Inc. The parent company was established in 1928 by two brothers Galvin and Joseph and slowly but steadily rose to become an industry leader and innovator. Originally, the company specialized in mobile phone manufacturing and equipment production; however in 2011 there was a split. One company, Motorola Solutions concentrates on police technologies, radios, and commercial needs. The other company, Motorola Mobility was sold off to Google and is the mobile handset producer.
Motorola Solutions began trading as an independent company in 2011. However the company had been bleeding for years and as a result had been compelled to sell off constituents to other businesses. It sold off its networks division to Nokia Siemens Networks in 2011 and the loss making Motorola Mobility was acquired by Google early in 2011 as part of the Internet major’s strategy to bolster its capabilities in the Android platform. In October 2014, Motorola Solutions India further reduced in size to 80 employees at present. This major restructuring has been a result of many difficult, hard-hitting decisions that have had and will be having long-term consequences for the company.
