Additional information

Documentation

Goods for export and import must be accompanied by customs declaration containing details of the goods, the means of transportation, and a request for customs clearance. Documentation such as invoices, consignment notices, permits and certificates must be attached. The documents required vary according to the means of transportation. The basic document is the EUR1 form.

Export Documentation

SITPRO is the UK's trade facilitation body dedicated to encouraging and helping business trade more effectively and to simplifying the international trading process. SITPRO offers advice on the documents and procedures for the movement of goods and has a briefing covering exporting to EU countries at www.sitpro.org.uk/trade/index.html.

Export Controls & Licensing

The UK Government maintains export controls on a range of goods such as arts and antiques, medicines and prescription drugs, chemicals, food, animals, plants and horticulture and strategic goods (including military goods, software, technology and so called dual-use items).

If items are subject to UK export controls, a licence is required before they can be exported by any means. Dependent on the nature of your goods, different government departments are responsible for issuing licences. Dependent on the export destination, sanctions and embargoes might also apply.

Standards and Technical Regulations

Harmonisation with the EU legislation and practice has been completed, however, in some areas special rules might apply for the registration and certification of products, for example:

OGYI is the Hungarian authority for the registration of pharmaceutical products. OGYI has joined MCA (Medical Control Agency) and PIC (Pharmaceutical Inspection Convention). Certificates from MCA and PIC can speed up the registration procedure, which is otherwise expensive and very time consuming.
