Local Environment

The environmental that is significant in my town is definitely the air pollution. The air gets so bad at times that it is tough to breathe without coughing. One of the main causes is the industry in the area. There are many cement mills and other industries that cause pollution to the Allentown, Pennsylvania air. I also attribute it to all the traffic that roams in the streets. There is not enough public transportation, therefore everyone that owns an automobile usually will drive it daily. I feel that it is, for some, bad environmental values. Some of the population will drive their cars even though the destination is within walking distance. It truly has become a lazy society. Also, the way that the city and area is "set-up" tends to make a person drive, instead of walk or ride a bike, to work. The developments that the main population lives in are not anywhere near to where the jobs are. I know that in other countries, and even some other states, communities are not built in this fashion. I personally wish that my job was less than fifteen miles away. I would either walk or ride a bike or, even, take the bus. I feel that when communities are built, these types of issues should come into consideration. We also need stricter regulations for the type of pollution that the industries in the area are producing. It has gotten better throughout the years, but the air quality still is a problem.
