Later Adulthood Development Report
Nothing stays the same in life as adulthood reaches, change in life begins even more then some is expected. Everyone of life will continue to age and go through stages through childhood, to middle adulthood, and late adulthood. When adulthood reaches there are stages that comes upon at that time, with a lot to develop for each individual. The aging stage is like a process. Adulthood stages are changes in social policies, going from work life to retirement life, changes in family, relationships and peers. Most of the developmental task that older people encounter are psychological in nature, (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman, 2010). It is very important that family is being informed and understand of changes that may acquire ahead of time.
Health care is a life satisfaction in later adulthood, as aging occurs people notice change many changes in life. Mental and physical changes start to decrease with individuals, without the ability for the person to carry out their daily activities. There are some that will try to blame it on medical problems, to not face the fact that aging is occurring in their life. For example an individual can complain about blurry vision and it can be from aging, but will say that they need new glasses. Adulthood brings so many changes along the way especially physical appearance. Aging makes the skin wrinkling, skin start to hang, hair turns grey, and nice figure disappears.
Transition from working life to retirement life can be hard on an individual late adulthood, changing over from a higher income to a lower income. Retired adult’s income will be Social Security, and this income is like a supplement income. Most people that retire from the company they worked for was offer 401k for retirement. Late life from work to retirement adjustment is like having a loss. Some individual will have problem adjusting to certain aspects of retirement, especially the income decrease. Some people choose to retire, and some are force to quit work; others are forced to retire (if any health problems or loss job), (“Merck Manuals,” 2016). Instead of priding themselves in the knowledge of an occupation, retirement forces the person to give up that role in search of another source to occupy their time, (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman).
In late adulthood there will be changes in marriage, family and peer relationships. In marriage divorce some may become widowhood or divorced. Either or a person will get lonely not having what they are to having around on the daily. We all in life that has a spouse love them and can’t wait to see then when they get home from work. So with older people being used to seeing their other half every day and to loss them to divorce and dying is tragic. Friend and family is important to every individual, it’s hard that we look for our sole mate to spend the rest of your life with, and to loss friend and family can be hard. Losing a spouse, family member or friend can leave a person feeling very lonely. This can make an individual go into depression, this can cause ill when in late adulthood. Friends and family may move away this also can cause an individual to go into depression. Depression leads to psychological effects that will deteriorate a person’s health causing the chance for terminal disease to become much higher. The weaker appearance of late adulthood causes family and remaining peers to step up in the role of making sure the person’s wellbeing is being met, (Zastrow & Kirst-Ashman).
