Social Darwinism

1. Explain why you agree or disagree with the basic principal of Social Darwinism?

I do not agree with the basic principal of Social Darwinism because some may work just as hard as others but may support a family or even do as Carnegie did and give back to the community, not giving them a chance to rise up to the top as those who were selfish and kept their money.

2. How do those with great wealth justify their position of socio-economic status?

With having so much money the wealthy greatly influenced the government to lean toward policies helping business. They justify themselves as being higher up because they worked harder for it and endured "survival of the fittest".

Yes, the wealthy all supported the idea of Social Darwinism because it gave them the right to do what they wanted with their money making them very powerful.

4. Should society help those that are less fortunate?

Yes, I think people in a society should help the less fortunate. Maybe not give them tons of money but at least get them on their feet to help them get where they are wanting to go so they and provide for themselves again.

5. Who should we trust to help those in need? Whose responsibility is it according to Andrew Carnegie?

The government would be someone to trust when there are people in need. According to Carnegie it is the job of the wealthy to give back to the society by distributing their wealth in the community.
