Part III. Analyze and Develop an Operating Model
Describe two potential EA models eligible or applicable for the initiative.
Model is the basis for managing and communicating enterprise architecture. The model represents the organization's data that describes the architectural concepts. It is based on the underlying metamodel provided by the enterprise architecture framework.
The main difficulty of enterprise architecture model is its continuous development, and therefore its permanent updating. Unlike a build plan that we can assume will remain stable for a long time, the enterprise architecture model will soon become obsolete if it is not updated. Organizations, information systems, procedures, businesses and goals are evolving, so models must be redesigned to reflect changes. If analysts or architects do not believe in the relevance of existing models, the pressure of deadlines may force them to temporarily rebuild models and focus on immediate needs, which are even more short-lived. Worse still, they may decide that there is no model at all to continue to implement the actual project. If this happens, the enterprise will return to the origin, that is, knowledge is neither controlled nor recorded, but scattered in the detailed implementation.
There are four mainstream enterprise architecture framework models: Zachman, FEA, Gartner, TOGAF. The two potential EA models that is eligible for our initative are : Zachman, TOGAF.
1. Zachman
Zachman is by far the oldest of the four frameworks, but the framework provides only a taxonomy of enterprise architecture content, rather than a description of the creation process. But is widely acknowledged as the first enterprise architecture framework theory, Zachman, first of all, this paper proposes a according to the different perspectives of the enterprise all aspects of the information system is described, the method of making enterprise standing in different angles can be used for the construction of information system the same way to communicate, which of the following pointed out the direction of the development of the theories of enterprise architecture framework. In the Zachman framework, the content of enterprise architecture is abstracted into six descriptions of information systems viewed from six perspectives, and Zachman argues that the content of an enterprise architecture is complete when all of these perspectives are complete for each aspect. In our social media platform, companies are beginning to understand that customer engagement is more about connecting through social media, so it is appropriate to use the Zachman framework.
2. TOGAF
Unlike the above framework model, TOGAF is designed to provide a standard approach to enterprise architecture creation. It is different from Zachman's taxonomy, which only introduces the content of enterprise architecture. TOGAF puts forward a highly abstract methodology, which does not depend on any specific organizational form. Even his own methods and content classification methods do not require rigid copying, nor exclude any other framework theory. Therefore, any enterprise can tailor TOGAF or mix it with other frameworks according to its own situation. And create and maintain an enterprise architecture that suits its own situation.
In our social media platform, if we can grasp valuable user data, such as user's spatial and temporal location data, user's consumption data, we can anonymize the data, and then provide data access interface to third parties, and obtain benefits directly through the service fee of data access. Therefore, TOGAF model can extend from digital analysis of product marketing to product design, production, supply chain and other fields to achieve precise digital control, and promote enterprises to gradually develop towards digital and intelligent.
Part IV: Roles and Responsibility
Conceptualize your enterprise architecture including roles and factors required.
To clearly conceptualize the enterprise architecture of our organization which is engaging in social media platform, in the start-up stage, we’d like to use Zachman framework. In the framework, we can clearly know the roles and the corresponding factors required for our enterprise architecture. Following table shows the details of our conceptualization.
Data (what) | Function (how) | Network (where) | People (who) | Time (when) | Motivation (why) | |
Objective/scope (role: planner) | 1.The transfer of activity-related information/post. 2.Draw the relevant information/Ads to right users | 1.Connect relevant nodes/sides on the internet 2.classify the different data/information | 1.main works on the Internet 2.social media network 3.offline popularization | 1.IS/IT components 2.management components 3. financial components 4.outside peers | 1.activity information inspiration 2.activity information launch 3.activity information spread (traffic drawing) | 1.create more connections between users and partners 2.the building of reputation 3.the assets of data and traffic. |
Business model (role: owner) | 1.Media and information/data owner and spreader | 1.business inspiration 2.business creation 3.traffic drawing 4.business close | 1. relevant sponsors 2.peers’ sharing/trades 3.information process | 1.IS/IT components 2.management components 3.traffic buyer | 1.activity creation 2.traffic order creation 3.traffic drawing 3.order fulfilled | 1.income from information spread 2.the assets of data and traffic 3.rising reputation |
System model (role: designer) | 1.data filtrate 2.data warehousing 3.data modeling | 1.realtiem information spread 2.realtime nodes connection 3.traffic drawing 4.order creation | 1.IT/IS infrastructure network | 1.IT/IS design department 3.cloud technology | 1.IS reengineering/improvement 2.IT updating/adjust 3.external/internal change in data flow | 1.accuracy of traffic drawing 2.smooth IT/IS system 3.completion of business process |
Technology model (role: builder) | 1.data collecting, 2.data classifying, 3.data distributing | 1.extract demographic/traffic information from post/activity 2.ensure the functions in every departments | 1.internal IT network 2.external IT network | 1.IT/IS department about communication and security 3.usage of cloud technology | 1.post/activity creation 2.information spread 3.related IT functions request | 1.the exact implementation of functions 2.the transform from information to income |
Detailed representation (role: programmer) | 1.data identification 2.data definition 3.data processing | 1.post delivery program 2.traffic ordering program 3.information guide program | 1.could computing 2.IT/IS program connection 3. information and function sharing | 1.Identification system helps to ensure the content being seen by approved person 2.it also helps to draw the relevant post/information to interested person | 1.before the sharing of information starts in the IS 2.when the activities/posts/Ads are created and distributed 3.when the data/information flow in to data warehouse | 1.guarantee the security of business, assets, and information 2.ensure the information flow in the organization 3.keep the function and operation of platform smooth and safe |
Functioning enterprise (role: user) | 1.the created/inspired activities 2.the attracted traffic 3.the converted information of activities/users | 1.create the post 2.conncted with interesting information 3.create the traffic campaign 4.relevant communication functions | 1.the media of platform (cellphone, PC, website) 2.the offline activities 3.the cooperation with partner | 1.internal IT/IS employees 2.external partner peers/organization 3.internal management employees | 1.generation of traffic order 2. generation of new activities 3.conncection between topic and users 4.occurance of communication for similar topic | 1.growth of data assets 2.growth of reputation 3.growth of business value 4.the power of traffic drawing |
