"It is more important to belong that it is to be individual"

The movie mean girls emphasises that in order to belong, you need to fit a particular group, and not to be an individual. For an individual to find belonging, they must be accepted by a group. We as human need to be accepted and belong can cloud our judgments and direct our actions. In the movie, the main character Cady changes her personality, in a journey to belong, but finds she had found it in the beginning.

In order to belong in a group, you should be accepted for who you are not what others want you to be. In the movie, in order for Cady to belong she needs to change who she is. An example from the movie that explains this was when one of the plastics said "On Wednesday's we wear pink". This means that in order for her to fit in, she needs to change what she wears every Wednesday. The use of collection noun "We" emphasises that they expect that, in order to belong within the group you must conform to their fundamental rules. Therefore, Cady must follow these fundamental rules to belong in the group.

The concept of belonging in this context is that it is better to be and individual then to be in a group of people who do not accept you for who you are. An example in the movie "mean girls" was when Cady was rejected by the plastics. A quote from the movie that explains this is "You think that everybody is in love with you, but really everybody hates you". This quote shows that the plastics liked Cady before she changed who she is. A technique used was a "descriptive language". One of the plastics described Cady as a "Gold shiny plastic and total Bitch".

In conclusion, belonging is discovered by being accepted for being yourself and not attempting to be something you're not. Cady is forced to changer her clothing, especially on Wednesday in order to fit in. At the end of the movie, Cady was rejected by her fake friends (the plastics) because the plastics only used her. They don't like who she is now, they only liked her before they changed her. Therefore, it is better to be an individual than to belong.
