ISSUES CAUSING DISSATISFACTION OF STUDENTS AT XXX UNIVERSITY.
Introduction:
The purpose of the report is to find out what causes dissatisfaction of XXX University students and suggest ways to improve it.
Students became discontented with several areas of functioning of XXX University.
Following areas, in students opinion, are inadequately good: quality of courses and lecturers teaching methods, administration, lecture halls, sport classes, and ''Cafeteria''- restaurant of XXX University. Most of them can be easily improved, other demand more involvement and time.
Two methods of gaining information were used in order to prepare this report: questionnaire and interview. In addition, we, as students of XXX University, experienced many situations and observed lots of facts, that require improvement.
We have divided the report into four sections: findings, recommendations, conclusions and executive summary. That division into four parts enable us to elucidate the problem more thoroughly.
The Executive Summary:
The report has been prepared in order to focus on issues that cause students dissatisfaction and introduce changes to improve studying conditions at XXX University.
As conducted questionnaires and interviews show students are mainly disappointed with: quality of courses and methods of teaching, administration department, lecture halls, sport classes, and restaurant ''Cafeteria''.
Most of students judged the methods of teaching as very low. Students complain that lecturers do not explain the most important topics during the course, they are dissatisfied with lack of preparation of some professors and irritated when lecturers are not able to answer complicated questions.
Students are displeased with Sport classes because there is not enough space to play tennis in the gym, there is old and damaged equipment. Moreover, sport classes interfere with their other classes and they cannot attend all the classes regularly.
Some irregularities were found in working of administration section, among other things, the staff is not willing to help students, members of staff have a problem in communicating with foreigners in English. In addition, working hours of administration section as unsuitably fixed.
It was proved, that lecture halls do not fulfill expectations of students. Disabled students are discontented with the lack of adaptation halls for disabled people. In addition, there is very bad lighting in the halls.
Students claim that restaurant require some changes because meals are too expensive in relation to quality. Mostly, meals are bad and cold and are severed in plastic dishes. Students are annoyed that there is not a possibility to pay by credit card.
In order to reduce dissatisfaction of students every effort should be made.
We suggest that you should order lecturers to talk with students about their expectations and pay more attention to the needs of every single student. You should also remind lecturers to be well prepared for classes otherwise she/he will get reprimanded.
We recommend repairing equipment or buying new to make sport classes more attractive for students. In order to have more space to play tennis you should assign an extra rooms to sport classes and move some of tennis tables to it. We also suggest rescheduling the sport classes so that they will not collide with other lectures.
We strongly recommend that you should admonish staff from administration department concerning their attitude towards students, you should extend time of working the office and focus on retraining staff and improving their English language.
We suggest that you should fit ramps for wheelchair users in some of halls to make them possibility to attend for all of the courses and change light bulbs for brighter to guarantee students more comfortable study conditions.
We recommend that you to talk with manager of restaurant about change some expensive products for their cheaper substitutes. You ought to consider to purchase glass dishes and metal cutlery and introduce terminals.
Findings:
1. Students of XXX University complain about the level, as well as quality of some of the taken courses and the methods of teaching lecturers of XXX University.
1.1. The conducted surveys have shown that lots 82% of students judged the methods of teaching of XXX University as very low. Students complain about not explaining the most important topics during the course. Students judged that mgr. ABC and PhD XYZ have improper attitude towards teaching.
1.2. The conducted interviews with students have shown that they are dissatisfied with lack of preparation for the lecture of some professors. Students claims that lecturers are not able to answer more complicated questions. Students judged that mgr. QWE is never prepared for the classes, read definitions from books instead of explain important issues on the board and always 30-40 minutes late. Responders believe that mgr. QWE is not appropriate person for this position because students do not get knowledge of his courses.
2. Students are dissatisfied with the Sport classes at XXX University. They are displeased with faulty equipment, and hours when they can participate in sport classes.
2.1. Most of students are of the opinion that there is simply not enough space to play table tennis. The tables are very close to one another that is disturbing during game and players often collide.
2.2. 85% of respondents complain about the equipment in the gym which is either out of order or does not work properly. Besides, some counters on the bicycles are broken and it is impossible to check results of exercising. As a result 15% of them are considering to withdraw from the classes.
2.3. 48% of responders complain that most of sport classes interfere with their other classes, and the only sport classes available for them are the one on Fridays. 80% of students find it especially uncomfortable to attend those classes that day as they have no other lecturers on Friday. Respondents claim that they would prefer to attend sport classes from Monday to Thursday in the evening hours, to have a longer weekend.
