Graphic Design is purposeful, informational, a visual language. Everything in the world is affected by Graphic Design. The influences of Design are reflected on many areas. As in commercial advertisements, Graphic Design is use often to express product ideas and purposes. Strong desire to become an inspiring designer, I enrolled myself into Setec Institute in hope further my ambitious and my dreams.
Being an active person by nature, I keep myself busy with homework and school. I decided not to dream about being a Graphic Designer but to act. I was not waiting for an invitation from anyone; I put myself out there to search for what I really want. Year 2007 became the starting point of my education. The first year went smoothly without a glitch. The second and the third was a thrilled. I really did have my run. It has given the reason to believe that those who really follow their dream and heart would have the advantage to achieve their goal than those who didn't follow their heart. As of now, the final year finally comes but I've told myself "This is not the end but a new beginning". Before we can graduate, the school has required each of us to complete a 4 months internship program.
WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE THAT ONE WOULD GET FROM INTERNSHIP PROGRAM? EXPERIENCES, OBSTACLES, SOLUTIONS.
I was thrilled when the news passes around about internship program, I've told myself "This is a very good and rare opportunity for me to get out there and experience the real thing". I cannot afford to waste time anymore, I hurried and look for a company who would accept me for this special program, after a week of searching, and I finally found one. I remember the first day at work, everyone was looking at me, the nervousness nearly got me killed, and I felt my pumping heart beats so loud. I used all my energy to keep me hang in there, I got better after a while. After sitting down about 15 minutes, I saw my new supervisor gone into his office, he came out after a while, he was walking right towards me with his left hand holding something, and I could easily guess what he was holding. I was correct, it was a couple magazines. He told me stand up and I did so, he was introducing me to all other co-workers in the office, I was smiling and turned my head to take a better look at everybody, there were some familiar, wait, they are my friends. I was really happy to know that I have friends on the first day at work; it would have been hard to try to survive the professional environment alone all by myself. There were nothing much to do on the first day though, my supervisor handed me a couple magazines, one of them is the first and our very own magazine that our company published in December last year. He told me to do a thorough observation which I naturally do so. I took a close look into those magazines but the first one I start was our own magazine. Some of the work in it was done by my friends; I could recognized their works at first glance because we spend over 4 years studying together and we were very close back at school and I wonder how? Later, I just found out that my friends have been asked for a job from this company since the third year we were studying. I observed each page closely and try to understand their style of design more to get what they were trying to bring out. After done reading our own magazine, I begun to start with the foreign magazines, I tried to understand how their design work connect to the product they were trying to advertised, each page, possess a unique design. The magazine company I still am, working for is all about daily lifestyle and fashion. But mostly we focus on fashion; classic, modern, traditional of many famous brands such as Mango, Axara, E.PSE, VNC, Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Valentino, Dolche & Gabana, Versace, Prada, Gucci, Dior, Jimmy Choo, Celine, Esprit, Christian Louboutin, BVGALRI etc. The first day was a very long day but it did go really well. After one month pass, as days go by, I began to understand the meaning of this internship program. What the school meant for me to really learn was not just the works itself but also how to adapt to the surrounding environment such as working under a tight schedule, cooperate well with other workers, working overtime. Every task is different from one another and most of the topic has strictly limited information. I remember when I was working on an article about a collection of shoes. I had a various pictures of shoes from my supervisor which he required me to sort them according to seasons and types. It was hard for me because I never knew that shoes have their seasons, I went online searching about them so I can sort the shoes correctly into all four seasons even though there are only two seasons in our country. As for this article, I learnt more than I could imagine, I understood how people express themselves by the shoes that they wearing and their attitude toward the shoes that they bought, sorted them into classes and styles accordingly. There were one time when I was working on an article about Street Style, a topic about daily wearing cloths, one of my most memorable working experience because I've done it perfectly and beautifully as I've been working hard on this project about 10 days, finally I finished it, the project was approved by my supervisor to be published. After it was published, I felt so good but later my company was sues by a photographer
