Internationalization of Terrorism
Terrorism is nothing but an unethical use of power in form of violence. It is executed usually by the psychologically weak, and involves threats and an intended harm often to the defenseless. Terror in the name of religion is a recurring historical phenomenon. (Chaliand & Blin, 2007). Combined with politics, terrorism has become a reason to gain publicity. The impact of terrorism is not restricted to definite localities but also to the Internet and satellite areas. Terrorists have become adept in manipulating the express technology like television, broadcasting centers and internet for their benefit. This has given rise to the global or the international terrorism.
Countries with a high rate of terrorist operations are Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Of these, Pakistan, India and Sri Lanka have the highest prevalence for suicide bombs. Although suicide terrorism is not the only kind of terrorism, it is the most virulent form of the phenomenon and makes every other form of terrorism far more deadly than before (Pape & Feldman, 2010). The terrorist organizations in these countries have been identified as the Haqqani network and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan, HUM (Harakat ul-Mujahidin), LET (Lashkar-e Tayyiba) and in Pakistan, IM (Indian Mujahideen) in India, LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Ealem) in Sri Lanka and HUJI-B (Harkat-ul-Jihad al Islami) in Bangladesh.
The common ideologies behind these terrorist activities mainly are resistance to coalition across country borders, invasion of government property, creating separate nationalism, establish and accomplish unlawful demands and demolishing various faiths to follow Islam.
Terrorists widely rely on illegal activities like extortion, kidnapping and drug smuggling. All terrorists are criminals and there is no legitimate reason to produce illegal drugs or launder money (Ehrenfeld, 2002). They also amass funds legally in form offers from the Muslim schools or colleges run by them and in charity from the oblivious wealthy donors in the Gulf countries. Some organizations receive funding from government agencies such as CIA (Central Intelligence Agency, USA) and ISI (Inter Services Intelligence, Pakistan).
