Welcome to our presentation for sustainability and innovation
For this project we have decided to choose an existing case study which we feel has the potential to adapt sustainable and innovative design and technologies
The case study we have chosen has been developed by Bovis homes and called the connexions housing development in Eastleigh Hampshire.
A connexion is a high quality development of two, three and four bedroom homes.
Bovis homes are planning to develop more homes in the next five years on vacant land nearby.
The development has been situated so it has easy access to major road, rail, air and sea links and being close to the town centre Bovis have intentionally done this to cut down the uses personal transport and introduced a public bus link through the development making it easier to get to local amenities including shops, schools and sports facilities. Cutting down the co2 emission and pollutants of car usage.
New homes present one of the best opportunities to reduce the energy consumption associated with modern lifestyles. A new home built under the 2006 regulations will use 40% less energy than an equivalent home built new in 2002.
Currennt fetures are
* Wall and loft insulation
* Double glazed windows
* Low energy bulbs
* Dual flush toilets

What are Photovoltaic?
photovoltaic materials and devices convert light energy into electricity.
photovoltaic systems for homes are entirely grid connected. If there is a power cut your system is automatically switched off. This works as a safety measure .
How much energy is needed?
According to the Energy Saving Trust, the average 3 bedroom house consumes 3,300 units of electricity (kWh) a year (cooking and heating using non electric supply). So Bovis homes could take this in mind when designing new homes.

Will they work in the UK and during the winter?
Yes. Solar panel suppliers have enhanced the efficiency of solar power systems to the extent that it is now a very viable option even in cloudier climates. The important thing to bear in mind is that solar power depends on intensity of light, not necessarily direct sunlight. So even when it's overcast, your solar panels will be producing clean electricity to help power your home.
