A) These are the reasons the Marshall Field’s flood disaster recovery effort is a project: The Management of this project must be unique & requires some skills like facilities, security, human resources, public relationships, financial, legal insurance & support services. This project is a one of a kind activity, never to be exactly repeated. The recovery efforts based on these steps: Evacuation of water, Repairing the hole in tunnel, Lighting & elevator services, Dissemble Salvageable machinery, Managing restoration of damaged areas, Media & customer relationships. Large scale disaster response & recovery efforts are containing the same characteristics.

2) In what ways do the characteristics of crisis management as described in this case correspond to those of project management?

A)  The project reflects the goal oriented, temporary nature of the project, cross functional & single person heads the project. Also this project has to be performed by different areas combination such as facilities, security, human resources, public relations, financial, legal insurance & support services, and also their contacts like Chicago Fire & Water Departments, Marshall Field’s parent company, Dayton Hudson & public agencies.

3) Who was (were) the project manager(s) & what was his or her (their) responsibility?

A) The project manager was the manager of maintenance. He could recover all electronic devices such as security, communication devices, computers & easily setup teams & combine people according to their responsibility.

       The project team was included form facilities, security, human resources, public relations, financial, legal insurance & support services, and also engineers for repairing the hole in tunnel, electricians for lighting & elevator services, a construction company for managing restoration of damaged areas.

4) Comment on the appropriateness of using project management for managing disaster recovery efforts such as this.
