Literary analysis consists of multiple literary devices including yet not limited to similes, metaphors, tone, etc. In the two writings, "Response to Executive Order 9066" by Dwight Okita and "Mericans" by Sandra Cisneros they provide keen incite on American ideologies and the way that the American public easily turned on the those of the minority.
In the poem “In Response to Executive Order 9066: All Americans of Japanese Descent Must Report to Relocation Centers” there are few to no literary devices that are used however the shift in tone create a better sense of what it must have been like to hear, often from friends, negative connotations of grievances that are solely introduced after Pearl Harbor. The shift in tone changes from a nice hopeful thought to a disappointment then back to a sense of limited joy that introduces the narrator.
In the short story "Mericans" there is tone, irony, and symbolism that seem the most clear. the tone is presented by having the narrator speak in an uneducated vernacular that adds realism and humor to the story. the irony is presented when sugar asks " Can we steal it?" it shows the separation of morals between those in the Ghetto and the rich. Symbolism is used in at least two cases, Miss Moore's name showing that she is an educated person that is a kind of teacher for the children and love, it is supposed to be that you care for someone and do not wish for harm to befall them.
Both stories provided a much needed insight into the american insights and culture. Many people at this time seemed to turn on friends due to many catastrophes such as Pearl Harbor but bonds are so easily broken. Once such ties are made nearly nothing can cut them. In the poem it still shows how she respects her friend and believes that when the time comes, she will miss her.
