Some people say that the best way to improve public health is by increasing the number of sports facilities. Others however say that this would have little effect on public health and the other measures are required. Discuss both views and give your opinions
Government has always vested interest in the health of its citizens. Some people believe that opening more sports facilities is the best method to boost public health while others counter that this would not have any drastic consequences. Both sides of the argument shall be analysed.
On the one hand, coming to the need of introducing more sports provisions one cannot deny that it encourages people to engage in workouts and take up some sports as a hobby. A friend of mine fortunately had her house in the vicinity of a football court and she used to visualize youngsters playing football. All this acted as a motivation so even she joined the team and now it has become a habit to play soccer. As this example, reveals that rising the number of sports complex would act as an instrument for enhancing health of the masses.
On the other hand, it is rightly said you can take a horse to a river but you cannot make it drink water. Increasing sports facilities is all in vain unless people have an inner motivation to stay fit. Creating awareness is the most promising solution. Organizing health campaigns, discounted medical checkups and sports competitions can instill healthy lifestyles among people. Take the role of Media, with all its grandeur and glamour it can fetch anybody’s attention and can act as potent tool in promoting healthy lifestyles. When seen in this light, it is understandable that above mentioned measures also have lot of potential.
As the above discussion reveals, it is evident that investing in one avenue is not a good option. I am personally of the wavelength that awareness is more important which would instigate people to use the fitness facilities. Governments should lay emphasis on building more fitness centres and in creating awareness.
