How symbolism impacts theatre
The movement of symbolism has impacted theatre and our society in many ways. It has been found in many forms of plays throughout history and aslo in different cultures. It can also be found in our society from the 1900's to our society today. Symbolism is everywhere especially when it comes into plays. For example the little things we see in them like the chairs in a play just by looking at them we can infer if the owner of the furniture has money and spends it well or has no money with no taste. In the next following paragraphs symbolism is explained in different forms of plays.
Some of the plays I have read through out my high school years had great symbolism. one of the most famous plays by Shakespeare was Romeo and Juliet. In this play the two young lovers family's despised eachother's appearance even with this hatred Romeo and Juliet fell madly in love. The family of both Romeo and Juliet never actually knew why they were always on angry bounds. The symbols that tied in this play were things like flowers and stars meaning a flower like a rose is beautiful and delicate just like how Romeo describes Juliet in the play. In this they each had a different meaning behind them. Another example in this play would be the star cross lovers meaning they were never supposed to cross paths. This play symbolizes that two people can fall in love with eachother despite the odds against them.
Another famous play that I read was called a midsummer nights dream. This play was also written by Shakespeare and was about one of the characters falling asleep and dreaming of unusual things. Like a few specific parts was when the love potion was poured on the sleeping people by puck a fictional character. He made the wrong people fall in love with the wrong guy/girl on mistake. Through out the night the two girls fall in love with the the opposite guy that they would be happy with. At the begging of the play hermia one of the characters is forced to almost wedd Lysander in who she is not in love with, but only going off her fathers wishes. As to the symbol in this play it would be the love potion because it affects every character in a different way.
The play I have recently watched was called lobby hero. It started off very slow with the two main actors holding a conversation. They were both in the lobby and their occupations were security guards who worked third shift. One of the main characters name was jeff. He was a very humble and honest guy. And the other main character was named William which was the boss of Jeff. Well in the first couple of scenes William tells Jeff that his brother is being convicted for murder and his brother wants him to say he was with him during the time the murder took place. Well two cops come into the scene and throughout the play eventually Jeff tells the truth about William not actually being with his brother during the murder.
