The article “How My View on Gay Marriage Changed” is a letter brought to the newspaper New York times. The article was brought to the newspaper on June the 23th 2012. The article is written by David Blankenhorn, “who is a noted figure for supporting of the legalizing same-sex marriage in June 2012”^[1]. The intention of this article for the writer, is to argue whether gay marriage should be accepted or not. The writer in this letter wants to explain how his view on gay marriage has changed over the years, and why it has changed.

Gay marriage is a really big topic of discussion in the U.S. The debate of the rights of marriage between different genders is one biggest divisive debates in the history of the U.S. The debates biggest question is, should homosexuals have the same rights as the “normal” people, and especially when the topic is about marriage. Other places around the world, is gay marriage legal and people in these places lives with it site by site. Other places around the world, experience different reactions off the topic gay marriage. There are some kinds of “anti-homosexuals”, and they are demonstrating against it.

When David Blankenhorn first released his first book in 2007 “The future of marriage “, had he a different view on homosexual’s rights and rights to be married. He means that it is all about the children, that they is needed to be raised under normal conditions. “The man and the woman whose sexual union made you will also be there to love and raise you”. It means that, when a child has been born the 2 parents of the child mission is to help and be there for the child in its growing states. He points out that the ““United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child” in some kind agrees with him.  As it says in the text “I opposed gay marriage believing that children have the right, insofar as society makes it possible, to know and to be cared for by the two parents who brought them into this world. I didn’t just dream up this notion: the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, which came into force in 1990, guarantees children this right.”^[2]. Further in the text David Blankenhorn mentions that love is love, even though some people doesn’t believe that love between two opposite genders and the same genders isn’t the same. But he believes it must be respected in the U.S. in the time we live in.

I found the text “A Right to Marry? Same-sex Marriage and Constitutional Law”^[3]  where I found a pretty descriptive quote: “Marriage is both ubiquitous and central. All across our country, in every region, every social class, every race and ethnicity, every religion or non-religion, people get married. For many if not most people, moreover, marriage is not a trivial matter. It is a key to the pursuit of happiness, something people aspire to—and keep aspiring to, again and again, even when their experience has been far from happy. To be told “You cannot get married” is thus to be excluded from one of the defining rituals of the American life cycle.”. So why can a nation as The United States of America have so much diversity when it is about marriage? Why can it be a question about homosexuals are allowed to engage in marriage? As it is mentioned in the quote “It is a key to the pursuit of happiness”, so why should they have their rights taken away just because of their homosexuality? U.S is a really big country with so many different cultures and religious & non-religious people living along each other. So why can it be a problem same sex genders lives together?
