How is adaptation different from change? Explain your answer in the writing of a 1 page essay with at least two specific examples from the stories we read. Also include a visual poster supporting your essay.
Adaptation is an action of alteration or process of adapting. Things are being modified and altered differently than the beginning or original form. For example:
Movies, television shows, plays, has been altered from the original work of a novel. The Harry Potter series was altered from the books to create the incredibly magical movies we watch today. Another type of adaptation is a change or the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment. A natural disaster could occur and alter the way a person lives. The weather could have damaged their home or completely destroyed it, even worse, wiped out their city/town. They have to modify their way of living to adjust to their own surrounds permanently or for the time being.
Change means to make or become different entirely. Or small adjustments can be made BUT have an obvious difference. Change can be immediate or occur over time. For example, the weather changes over time. One day it can be sunny and hot, the next could be cold, windy and rainy. This could occur over a few hours or overnight. Change could be bad in some cases, but also very beneficial. A tragic event could occur and your life may feel like it’s in a downward spiral, but in time your body, mind, and health (physical being) will heal. The thing that is missing from your life will never change though, for it is inevitable and we cannot escape change.
Adaptation and Change are very similar but also different. They both could be positive or negative modifications in your life. Change is inevitable while we can try and avoid reconstruction of our life. In the story Shoefly Pie, we see that the main character, Mattie, goes the a dramatic and tragic change in her life. Her mother passes away and needs to find an outlet in the time of her grief. One day she stumbles upon a restaurant named Good For You, and decides to stop and grab a bite to eat. A waitress comes to serve her, and as they get into conversation, the waitress sheds light on some of the other characters and their problems. A few of them are dealing with a loss in their family as well, and due to this, they are in desperate need of a cook/chef. Mattie agrees to work there and she undergoes a dramatic change; soon moves on and is ready to .
CHANGE is the key word in this situation. Her persona, attitude, mindset, all changed. It all went through a fine adjustment and created her to be this new person. Still in some ways the same (by the loss of her mother) but her outlook on things now after she has finished grieving are positive and she is ready for a new chapter in her life.
