In a relationship each individual should have equal liberty in opinions and thoughts. Once a individual exclude their partner from having these freedoms their relationship begins to deteriorate. No one should ever force their will in any situation against another individual because it causes the unhappiness and bitterness to the relationship.
In Ms. Chopin short story "The Story of an Hour" Ms. Mallard was told that her husband had died in an accident at his job. Though sad at first, Ms. Mallard emotion uncommonly changes to joy as she realizes that she is now freed of her husband. She expressed her joy of freedom by whispering "Free! Body and soul free". In a relationship neither partner should feel as if they have been stripped from their independence. Instead each individual should show sympathy to the others ideas and opinion.
In contrast no one should ever feel the need to have a dominate control over another's thoughts and actions. As seen in "The Story of an Hour" Mr. Mallard dominance over his wife has affected his relationship to the point of bringing unhappiness to his partner eventually causing her death. Both parties in a relationship should understand the freedom that each opposite party has. They should also understand that though they may disagree on what the other feels and acts that they must never feel as if they need to control the others actions.
Each member of relationship should strive for equality. A relationship will never have happiness if one side is too dominant over another as it causes tension. Each member should be expressive to the other and also understand that allowing a person to express themselves is only benefiting the relationship.
