HIGH SCHOOL DROPOUTS

Education in schools is the best way to help people develop knowledge and skills for the future. High school is an important time for people to finish basic knowledge and education. But nowadays, a lot of young people do not finish high school, the amount of high school dropouts increase each year. In America, since 2003, the high school dropout race has gained 10% and still increases each year. High school dropouts become the problem of American education. Students drop out of school for many reasons such as their families, schools, financial situation, and social situations. That situations have many negative influences not only students but also the society.

The first reason is families, some parents cannot support their child because they have a lot of children, they do not have a job or their finances are not enough while school fees are high. Some families want their children to be independent; they let their child have part time jobs when they are so young. Having a job helps earn money, young people at first feel independent due to the face that they can have money to support themselves and help their families. Later they might think work is more necessary than study and they drop out. Another reason, because some families have the strong finances to support their child all their life, children do not think they need to go to school, but they still can have a good life.

Besides, school is another cause. Schools do not have modern teaching methods to make student interested in studying. Sometimes teachers are not kind enough to their students, or students are scared of bullying. Furthermore, some schools have problems with violence, which make young people afraid to go. In some Asian countries, schools use strong punishment as a measure to force students to study; it might make teenagers who have a lot of emotions feel cornered they do not want to study anymore. Schools also have trouble among students; students fight and people do not feel comfortable when they are in schools. Sometimes when fights reach the point that students are shunned, they will feel lonely and do not like schools.

One more reason why high school students leave their school is negative social situations such as drugs, pregnancies, and alcohol. Students are easily influenced by the wrong people to do unlawful things; a lot of teenagers today take drugs without knowing the bad effect that it can do to their health and life. Pregnancy is the one of reasons that forces girls to drop out. Young people develop their love so fast and then they have bad results. Young men and women who become parents have a lot of responsibilities to their baby and have a lot of troubles to study in high school. Alcohol is another problem that forces teenagers to leave their school. Using alcohol, young people cannot control their actions, so they easily do wrong actions and then they cannot study in school.
