ABSTRACT

AWARENESS AND AVAILMENT OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES OF HOUSEHOLDS IN BARANGAY LIBOTON, NAGA CITY

        This study was conducted to determine the relationship of the level of awareness and degree of availment of health and social welfare services in Barangay Liboton, Naga City.

        The respondents consisted of one hundred (100) households in Barangay Liboton, Naga City.  The data were gathered using survey questionnaire and the recent Community Based Monitoring System (CBMS) Report of the same barangay.

        Findings have shown that the awareness along with the health services. The highest perceived rating was in existence of barangay health center 4.09 and the lowest 3.76 was in efficient coordinating of BHU. Mean rating obtained 3.94. For social welfare services, the highest 3.97 was in day care service center and the lowest 2.94 was in free funeral service assistance. The mean rating obtained for social welfare services was 3.64.

Findings have shown that the availment along with the health services. The highest perceived rating was in the existence of barangay dental clinic with a mean of 3.84 and the lowest 3.4 was in vaccination for infants/children/pregnant. The mean rating obtained was 3.66. For social welfare services, the highest is 3.49 was in drug addiction prevention program, while the lowest mean was in free funeral services assistance with a mean of 2.69. Mean rating obtained was 3.29.

Test of relationship of awareness with availment of health and social welfare services resulted to r-value of 0.93 and 0.535 respectively, and both values were higher than the tabular values. The studies found out that there is a significant direct relationship between awareness and availment of health and social welfare services in Barangay Liboton, Naga City.

INTRODUCTION

        The Philippine Constitution guarantees that “the state shall protect and promote the right to health of the people and instill health consciousness among them” (Article II, Sec. 15). It does not distinguish its mandate on basis of the status or standard of living of anyone. It is absolute, anticipatory and responsive.
