Hank Kolb Case study

The main problem at the company right now is lack of quality control at management level also another issue is Hank Kolb who is the Director of Quality Assurance Manager and reports to general manager and is under great pressure to report profit margin.

Workers do not care about product quality it seems as if they do not have the right attitude towards work as seen in their poor work ethic and great neglect of responsibility and initiative. The second main problem is that employees are overly focused on reaching the production and making that they tend to for commove to ensure the quality of their products machine. The third one is that the equipment is not designed to perform the job it is being used for at the moment, that's means there is lack of specification. There is no any maintenance and repairs being done -leading to low quality outputs of products.

Hank, director of quality is not discussing with company employees the long term goals of the company -there is no measures put in place to solve the many problems the company is facing currently. There is lack of communication between different departments, for example at the marketing department quality is a non-factor, all they care is getting product out of the line.

In order to improve quality the management should undertake several steps including in the short run talking to employees about the importance of quality control measures to the company and how it is the responsibility of every employee to make sure that they take product quality very seriously. Also, not just making decision but they should involve the employees in the process of solving the problem take ideas and suggestion provided by employees, this is vital because the employees are the first in line and know what needs to done.

The management also needs to training /seminars employees so as everyone is doing the right job, this will not only increase production but will in the long run help the company improve increasing capacity and further improve employee's moral.

Another very important step the management should take is talking to various departments that currently are not communicating as they needed to and informing them the company's expectation of high quality products; in particular engaging marketing about the downside of returns that company is very high and they need to understand it could have a negative effective on the long run as they could potentially lose customers at the rate of defective materials return.

In conclusion, to proceed forward Hank should implement the strategies of employee training, talking to them about quality and how it is important and above all better communication between all departments -if implemented the company will likely higher revenues/profit margins.
