ABSTRACT

Background: Green IT or green computing refers to environmentally sustainable computing or IT. Green computing is referred to the study and practice of designing, manufacturing, using and disposing of computers, servers and associated subsystems - such as monitors, printers, storage devices and networking and communication systems are utilized efficiently and effectively with minimal or no impact on environment. A study of the readiness and awareness of senior IT managers towards the adoption of green IT is initiated through questionnaire in the hope of understanding the core perspectives of individual, factors of influence, the perception, efforts and approaches of the company onto a greener computing.

Result: The benefits derived from practicing green IT are enormous. The adoption of green IT had resulted tangible and intangible benefits, as such cost of input is reduced, environmental sustained, reputation strengthened, employee's morale improved and society welfare reinforced which are widely recognized and promoted.

Conclusion: This study involves extensive face-to-face interviews that attempt to identify and extend the understanding of the different aspects against green IT. The findings had also proven that Green Movement agenda is being embedded globally in both business and government context. Nevertheless, IT Department is absolutely a compelling and important starting point towards green computing. Now and in the future, green IT is also on top of mind for companies' continued growth.
