Througout the years of 776 BC - 323 BC the aincient greeks made many contributions to western civilization. The greeks made advancments and affected the arts we see today and our government ,medicines , and philosiphys. Much of what we see and have in our society today was impacted by the greeks
One way the aincient greeks have affected our culture is through there use of the democracy form of government. Greece had the first known democracy. Although, it had some diffrences from the way are democracys are today it set up the basis for this ne type of government. Some of the differences in the aincient greeks democracy and are democracy today is that in are democracys today men and woman are aloud to have a say and vote for the president or leader of that country the only rule is that the man or woman must be 18 or above to vote. But, in aincient greece only men were aloud to vote and the man had to be 32 or older. There is one huge simularity between the democracy of today and aincient greeces democracy was that they both have assemblys that vote on the laws for the country. The differences about the assemblys is that in aincient greece you had to be a man above the age of 32. But, in todays socity or democracy if you want to be in the assembly you must be a man or woman who is a politic and you must be selected or elected to the assembly.
Greeks affected sports in western civilization. Myron's famous sculpture, the Discus Thrower is an example of a kind of sport in ancient Greek times that resembled modern day javelin mixed with Frisbee. Greece was the first civilization to incorporate sports and make it a tradition. Greece was the hosts of the first Olympics, the sports that this involved were Running, Chariot racing, wrestling, boxing, javelin, and many more sports. In modern day western civilization athletes compete in many of the same sports as the first Olympics had. The Olympics have now been around for many
The ancient Greeks have made contributions in the two areas of art and architecture. For example, the ancient Greeks built the Parthenon, which is a temple built in honor of the goddess of wisdom, Athena . The Parthenon had columns built in the front it. The western civilizations used columns in some of their architecture, like the Lincoln Memorial. Another contribution is the famous sculpture known as the Diskabolus or the Discus Thrower. The sculptor of this sculpture was showing that men should be physically fit. He also used very detailed lines to show how strong and fit the men in Greece were.
It can easily be seen that the ancient Greeks not only made major advancements in the areas of art, architecture, drama, philosophy, government, math, and science, but they also made original contributions in these areas. As you can see our world would not be the way it is today if it wasnt for the greeks.
