Executive Summary

In 2001, Goldman Sachs published a report entitled "Building Better Global Economic BRICs". Since then, Brazil, Russia, India, and China have grabbed the attention worldwide. Ten years has passed, some investors start to think: where is the next potential market for investment? BOP (base of the pyramid) markets are considered as the emerging markets for the following decades.

In this report, Papua New Guinea, where Malaria is the leading cause of illness and death, is identified as the target market. Although the NPO has provided mosquito nets to local residents, it can't prevent people from being bitten when doing outdoor activities. On the other hand, mosquito coils have been recognized as an effective repellent against mosquitoes.

Base on the information, exporting mosquito coils from Mainland China to Papua New Guinea is considered as a feasible business model. In addition, two local giant retailers, Agmark and BNBM, have been identified as ideal business partners so as to focus on our target regions where malaria is much more serious, including New Ireland Province, East New Britain Province (ENBP), Morobe Province, and National Capital District. With the competitive price, high quality product, precise target markets, and reasonable profit, we can guarantee that this is a worthwhile investment.

Introduction

Papua New Guinea, which is located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, is occupying the eastern half of the island of New Guinea and numerous offshore islands.

Papua New Guinea has rich natural resources and agriculture provides a livelihood for 85% of the population. Because of protracted economic and social stagnation, the United Nations Committee for Development Policy called for Papua New Guinea's designation of developing country to be downgraded to least-developed country In March 2006 [1].

In addition, communicable diseases remain the major causes of morbidity and mortality in all age groups in Papua New Guinea. In 2008, malaria was the leading cause of all outpatient visits, the fourth leading cause of hospital admissions and the third leading cause of death [2].

The purpose of this proposal is to identify Papua new Guineans' needs. We aim to export a product that can improve Papua new Guineans' lives. A comprehensive research would be conducted and a business model would be suggested in this proposal as well.
