Globalization Case

Globalization is a process of increased interconnectedness among countries. The forces of globalization ranging from mass media, multinational corporations, and migration trends have had a controversial influence on standard of living, economic development and cultural characteristics of any society in the world.

In the first place, the new digital and satellites developments in the past few decades have spurred a rise of global media systems. Many global programs are now available through television, the Internet and the radio. In other words, global media tools allows us to communicate with each other, keep us informed of contemporarily worldwide affairs. However, the negative impact of global mass media is also worth taking into consideration. In reality, the exposure of sex images, excessive portraits of violence, improper language usage in imported or online movies and dramas have instilled negative thoughts on teenagers' mind. Moreover, mass media are the main factor in homogenizing global culture by disrupting national traditions. Teenagers nowadays have rejected their own traditional music. Instead, they tend to listen to American music, sing in other language rather than their own native tongue and be influenced by eccentric fashion style of entertaining stars appearing at a high frequency on global media.

The second aspect of globalization exerting an enormous influence on our life is the continuous appearance of multinational corporations. Regarding to positive perspective, open trade policies to attract foreign investment have helped developing countries like Vietnam to have a more stable and prosperous economy. Multinational companies can be regarded as a supplementary source of capital to support local investment, a provision of better access to high technology for poor countries. Moreover, the use of local labor by foreign firms plays an important role in decreasing unemployment rate considerably, contributing to resident's higher income. However, the unlimited dependence on universal brands also reduces competitiveness of domestic products because foreign firms are likely to produce at a lower cost.

Last but not least, an important global trend is the migration of people, in which the movement of labor from developing to developed cities or countries is the most common. This situation leads to the rapid increase in the population in these areas , which make local authorities face various social problems including the shortage of housing, healthcare service, education system and depreciation of environment.

In conclusion, globalization is still deeply controversial when posing both positive and negative effects on the economy development, living conditions and traditional patterns of any country. Therefore, it is crucial to find a proper balance between supporting interaction crossing nation's barriers and protecting domestic economy as well as distinctive cultures.
