I am a Generation Y baby (1980-1994). The Generation of Y have a positive and optimistic outlook on life, and are fond of direct communication especially in the workplace. This generation tends to get along with the baby boomer generation. A global perspective is one characteristic found as well as technological change adaptability. Because of the technological advances in the last twenty years it is easy to have direct communication, to the point. Along with this comes impatience, especially in communication. The days of writing a letter and waiting for weeks for a reply are far gone. With the technological adaptability and knowledge Generation Y has a major upper hand. Generation Y also tends to be accepting of various cultures, races, ethnicities, sexual orientation, disability, etc. "Gen Y has been pampered, nurtured and programmed with a slew of activities since they were toddlers, meaning they are both high-performance and high-maintenance... They also believe in their own worth" (Armour, 2006).

Times have changed as far as perspective on careers. Earlier generations tended to stick to a particular career and dedicate blood sweat and tears at any cost to work. Generation Y doesn't expect to stay in a job for an extended amount of time however. "they've seen the scandals that imploded Enron and Arthur Andersen, and they're skeptical when it comes to such concepts as employee loyalty" (Armour 2006). This group of people likes to keep their opetions open and know they have many.

My view points on work in regard to dedication, expectations, interactions, and purpose of going to work are close to what has been described. I am only as dedicated to a job, as I feel it is dedicated to me. I like to feel valued and respected. My interactions tend to be primarily through technology. I email and text message co workers, clients, subordanents, and managers rather than talk face to face often times. My purpose in going to work is to work towards retirement. I want to save up so I am taken care of when I am older. I also work to play. I feel my work life balance is in line with others in my generation. I work well with other generations as I was raised in a strict and respectful home. I am tolerant of others difference and do my best to be patient. I am easy going but a hard worker... just like to have fun while doing it. "Generation Y combines the can-do attitude of Veterans, the teamwork ethic of Boomers and the technological savvy of Generation X" (Coates, 2007), therefore integrating while appreciating all generations. Generation Y tends to bring everyone together, and I feel I fit that mold.
