General Motors Company (GM) designs, produces and sells car trucks and automobiles all over the world. The company also sells financial services. The company's vision is designing, building and selling the world's finest cars. The company boasts of an employee force that is highly qualified and experienced and who have great pride in the work that they do so as to provide the best cars in the world. The company main goal is delivering vehicles with exceptional design, high quality and reliability, fuel economy and amazing features. The company principles are safety and qualities, creating lifelong customers, innovate, deliver long time investment value and make appositive differences from all other companies.
The company, together with it partners produce sell and service their cars with Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Baojun, Holden, Isuzu, Jiefang, Opel, and Wuling brands (Farber, 2002). The company produces convertibles, electric and mini cars, heavy duty and full size trucks and monocabs sold in over 120 countries of the world. The technology used by the company is high class and the company is still innovating technologies to boost the automotive industry. The company has boosted the electric cars with advancements in electric motors, batteries and power controls.
The general motors company was started William C. Durant by flint, Michigan in 1908 as a holding company for McLaughlin and Buick Stocks for a fifteen year contract (Pelfrey, 2006). The company has its headquarters in Detroit, Michigan. In it early ages it held only Buick motor company but in a very short period it acquired more than twenty companies including Oldsmobile, Cadillac and Oakland (Pontiac). Opel based in Germany known for the manufacture of sewing and bicycles in its time joined the GMC Company and further strengthened it. As inventions continued to diversify with production of electric bulb, radio and the telephone the GMC set a pace for the others to follow (Pelfrey, 2006). The addition of Chevrolet, Vauxhall, and Opel increased the strength of GMC.
General motors pioneered the use of engines that could operate with low leaded or totally unleaded gasoline at all and was the first company to offer an airbag in a car production. This was an effort to reduce environmental pollution. In 1982 general motors opened a new complex in Zaragoza which began building fuel-friendly Opel Corsa (Pelfrey, 2006). The company expansion in china and India in the year boosted it vehicle sales.
In 1955 the company sold over three million cars abroad, five million in United States and this was the year the company got into joint venture agreement with China. By the start of the new millennium the company had turned to be a global company
