General Analysis of Main Event Sports Bar and Grill

INTRODUCTION

The fundamental purpose of this paper is a general analysis of Main Event Sports bar and grill. A downtown restaurant owned by a local couple from vancouver. Discussing its history, stake holders and both internal and external factors will help show why it has been such a successful and thriving business, rated 4/5 according to Yelp.com

DESCRIPTION

Located on the corner of Main and 8th street, this bar and grill have been at the same location since early 2000's. Previously owned by a different couple under a different name, Steve and his wife Allison bought the building and dedicated their time and hard work together as a team. Starting out as a relaxed, jazzy atmosphere of a sport bar later remodeled to add a splash of classy and high-end dinning, it's a win for both sport fans and date goers. During the last five years the business has been booming, enough to allow and call for growth to another location. A few weeks ago Steve and Allison opened up a new and much bigger place under the same name on the east side of vancouver. Hiring a whole new staff of about 15 people while both still working at the original location along with 5 long time friends and employers, Steve and Allison are looking forward to the reward of their hard work resulting in this successful business.

STAKEHOLDERS

Main Event has a few stakeholders who benefit from the company. From these stakeholders I will list in order of who has the most to gain/lose from the success/failure of the company.

Owners: Steve and Allison are both neck-deep and dedicated to their business. They rely on it for their income and both work the bar late nights collecting the tips while monitoring the performance. With out it they would have nothing.

Employees: The 5 employers of the original location on Main street have become good friends with both Allison and Steve having a very stable good paying job due to this thriving business They are in it for the long run, staying late and putting in a lot of work and time as if it was their own. Along with the new 15+ employes who are just as important yet have not dedicated 10+ years to the business They would all suffer if the business went under, most are College students who rely on the money to pay for school and housing.

Customers: Next are the customers. Most are residents of down town vancouver that walk to the location weekly to have drinks at the bar. Others come from portland do too its great rating and very reasonable prices. The new location on the east side serves mostly camas residents and people living in Orchards. If the business fails they will take their money somewhere else, but I'm sure they will miss it and have to drive farther to get a good bite to eat.

Suppliers: Main event uses a large variety of suppliers, everything from food and drinks to paper bags and boxes. Because of the large size of these supplier company's and the fairly small (compared to chain restaurants) business, they wont be loosing much and make plenty of money without Main Event regardless.

EXTERNAL FACTORS

Economic- The economy has a huge effect on the failure or success of the business. The amount of money people make in the area will reflect on the amount of times they go out to eat and support the business Surprisingly Main Event has been successful and even expanded so I would say the economy has not taking them down as much as other businesses.

Political/Legal- There are a few political or legal factors to consider. There are certain health regulations and inspections which they must pass yearly. Not only does this threaten the licensing of this business giving them the right to operate, it also reflects their food and cleanness to potential customers. Low inspection score often show up on the web, newspapers, and forums warning customers of the poor cleanness and high risks of food born illnesses. Along with that comes the liquor license they must obtain and keep in order to serve and sell alcohol there for they need to ID customers to ensure legal age. At this time political/legal factors play a large role but they are not
