2:(a) The professor uses other people ‘s view and some reports or article that are similar to his to support his view of criticisms like Paul Hawken, Jeffrey Hollander, the repot of “Behind the Mask” and article in the Wall Street Journal (The Case Against Corporate Social Responsibility).  And the other major evidence is to use credible sources like UN to prove that our communities and ecosystems are getting worse, for example in the Ecosystems: According to the Global Footprint Network, the world’s ecological footprint has exceeded the earth’s biocapacity; The Living Planet Index, compiled by the Zoological Society of London, which shows a nearly 30% decline since 1970 in nearly 5000 measured populations of 1686 species around the world; According to UN Millennium Ecosystem Assessment, 60% of world ecosystem services have been degraded; of 24 evaluated ecosystems, 15 are being damaged; water withdrawal has doubled over past 40years: and over 1/4 of all fish stocks are over harvested and other plants have been lost since 1980; Study conducted for the UN by Trucost found the estimated combined damage of the world’s 3,000 biggest companies was worth $2.2 trillion in 2008; From the Report of IPPC, GHGs have increased markedly since 1750 as a result of human activities which is cause the climate change. Then list many aspects that can prove the climate change like the warm trend, decreased snow cover and more possible heat waves; the greatest market failure the world has ever seen which will result in a persistent annual loss of 5% of global GDP, or 20% if worse.

For the social aspect: According to the MDGs, in 2009, 42 million people had been displaced by conflict or persecution, 80% of them in developing countries. The number of people who are undernourished has continued to grow; about 1/4 children under age of five are still underweight; Only about half of the developing world’s population has adequate sanitation facilities; Disparities between rural and urban, poor and rich is still very huge in sanitation level and healthy level; According to the Gallup’s 2010 global snapshot, the world still face the very serious inequality, like the percentage of people who are ‘thriving’ ranges from a high of 82% in Denmark to a low of 1% in Togo; According to Transparency International’s index like the CPI (Somalia-1.1, Afghanistan- 1.3, Myanmar -1.4)and BPI (Russia 5.9 China 6.5, Mexico 6.6) shows that the corruption in some countries is still very serious. And between 1990 and 2005, more than 283 private international cartels that cost consumers around the world an estimated $300 billion in overcharges were exposed.

(b): I can’t totally agree with professor Stenzel in the social aspect. Because based on my experience and history knowledge, the capitalism and globalization truly promote the development of China after the Community Party import the part of capitalism to China after 1978 and enter into the WTO in 2001. Our living standard, health level, the situation of the sanitation, Education level and even the convenience of our life are getting better and better. So I can’t say that those corporations make my country even worse in the social aspect especially in the aspect of material life. And for the other area of the world, the reason the situation they get worse in social aspect is complicated. I think it must has the historical, political and cultural reasons. So I think professor Stenzel needs to analysis more specific countries and provide more data to convince me, because maybe the CRS decrease the speed of the situation getting worse in some countries. But I agree that the CRS should do more to let all countries to getting better.
