I enjoyed this documentary on the food industry by Robert Kenner. This short film took us, on a journey inside the food industry letting us, as consumers see what happens inside the food industry. The first segment examines the industrial production of meat chicken, beef, and pork calling it humane and economically and environmentally unsustainable. In this first segment, we how chickens are grown in 7 weeks. And because of this their bones, are not fully developed causing chickens problems like walking because of the rapid weight gain.
Also in this first segment, it talks about Tyson being the biggest producer of chicken in the world, and how they own chickens from the time they are born until they are slaughter. You would think that a large company like Tyson that is well known company wouldn’t have something going on in their company. In for them to say they are not purchasing chicken but food was astonishing to me that you would say something like that. As a consumer that buy your product it shows me how much thought in consideration you have for me as consumer.
So, we should look in to the food that we buy for our kids and love ones. Because as we see in this documentary the only thing these company care about is making money. They are growing chickens in 7 weeks we are buying this food bring it into our homes feeding are kids and we wonder why 13, and 14 years old teenagers look like they are 19 and 20 or, at 18 having massive heart attacks at a young age.
Also in this documentary, we see how they don’t want farmers talking what goes on inside slaughterhouses. How food comes from assembly lines making it almost impossible for workers to take breaks, because of the high demands on food product from these big companies. So, they do everything that they know how to keep us in the dark. As they say what you don’t know want hurt you.
We see in this documentary it has some good information for us to take heed to. A lot of the things that goes on I had no clue of, like how E. coli contaminants some of the food we eat because are standing feces for hours before they are slaughter. Also, how corn has conquered the world and Government policy today. We see just everything that we eat has some type of corn or soybean in it. Not only are we corn in everything but we are feeding it to the animals as well because it causes them to grow faster and bigger even though they should be eating grass.
Ultimately I believe when we come together as one we can make a difference in the food industry. Because without us, the consumer, there would not be Walmart, McDonalds, Tyson, or Smithfield to sell their product. If we want change in the food industry, we the consumer have, to speak up and be heard. we can’t afford to let these companies continually do what they want at our expense or another mother lose her child because of these companies that want take necessary time to make sure that the food they are processing is okay. The last thing anyone want is to lose their child for eating something that everyone enjoys eating a hamburger. I refuse to sit back and be quit with the information that was shared with me in this documentary on the food industry by Robert Kenner.
