Since the first Walmart store opened in 1962 at Rogers, Arkansas in United States, Walmart has dedicated its business to making a difference in the lives of its customers, helping them to save money and live better. A vision brought to live by Sam Walton the founder of Walmart.
Walmart broke into the UK market with the acquisition of ASDA in year 1999. ASDA root can be traced back to two yorkshire brothers (Peter and Fred Asquith) whom were joined in year 1965 by Dairies to become ASDA.
ASDA has grown in recent years to become UK's second largest retail supermarket with over 170,000 dedicated colleagues in more than 376 stores across United Kingdom. ASDA records more than 18million shoppers on a weekly basis with an average yearly turnover of 20 billion pounds. Below are brief insight to the 4 categories of ASDA stores in the United Kingdom;
Asda Supercentre: ASDA Supercentres carry a full range of products, including food, consumables, general merchandise and apparel.
Asda Superstore: Asda Superstores carry a full range of products, including food, consumables.
Asda Living: Asda Living specializes in general merchandise and apparel and sometimes offers limited consumables and very limited food, such as snacks and beverages.
Asda Supermarket: Asda Supermarkets provide a convenient shopping experience for the customer who needs groceries and some general merchandise.

ASDA's Hierarchical Structure
ASDA hierarchical structure has many levels. Each level is controlled by
one person and instructions are generally passed down
from one person to another until it gets to the bottom of the
hierarchical structure. If there was a problem in a hierarchical
structure it would move up through the structure again from one person
to another until it gets to where it is supported to be.
The various levels of department are;
* Marketing and sales department
* Production department
* Finance department
* Human resource department
