What is the primary emphasis of the film or show? Examples: artistic expression, technological achievement, informative. Explain your answer.
The primary emphasis of this film is to show girls that they should be themselves and not who others want you to be. The mom in this movie wants her daughter, Katie, to follow in her footsteps and join the Delta Sorority. At first Katie thought that is what she wanted as well, but when she overhears some of the older girls talking during pledge week she changes her mind. Katie did not want to be a part of a Sorority where the girls only pretended to accept her or anyone else. She ends up accusing the Delta Sorority of dirty pledging and in by doing so the Delta's end up making her campus life miserable. That is until Katie decides to join the Delta's rival sorority, the Kappa Sorority.
What cultural values is the film or show attempting to promote? Do you agree or disagree with those values? Explain your answer.
The main cultural value in this film is that one should respect their parents but also live their life the way they want to. Katie wanted to join the Delta Sorority in order to please her mom but when the Delta's act in a way in which she did not agree with she decides not to join. Katie's mom is rather disappointed with her and Katie is not happy with her mother for taking the Delta's side on every situation. Towards the end of the movie they both start to realize how they were both wrong and end up making up. In a way this shows how kids and parents may not always see eye to eye on things, but one should follow their heart and hope the other understands.
What is the surface-level subject matter of the film? Describe the plot.
Katie and Sara have been friends since childhood. They enter college together, where Katie is a prized legacy candidate for the Delta sorority, which was co-founded decades ago by her mother, Lutie. Events occur during pledge week to cause a rift between Katie and the Deltas, which leaves Sara as a Delta pledge and Katie out in the cold. Katie joins the rival Kappa sorority, and the rivalry splits not just Katie and Sara, but extends all the way into the Delta Alumnae Association which Lutie is apart of.

A common trend found in this film that is shown in other films is what the students are wearing. Every student is wearing something new and that more than likely just came out at that time. Film makers are using films now days to help designers get their merchandise sold.
What is the subtext or underlying theme of the film? What issues or values are explored in the film or show?
This student saw no subtext or underlying theme in this film. It is a common everyday film where a girl fallows her heart and ends up being out casted for it. Though following one's heart and speaking up may be a great value explored in this film. If one does not believe in something someone else does, why shouldn't that person speak up? Especially when it could possibly hurt someone's feelings.
