A president is someone who is nominated by the nation as the best candidate that will be able to make successful decisions for his country in its present day and the future. He is intelligent, powerful and honest. Unfortunately, during the 1970's our very own president, President Nixon, was part of a disgraceful action known as the "Watergate Scandal" that later turned into an Academy Award winning thriller called "All the President's Men" in 1976.
President Nixon was the thirty-seventh president of the United States of America and he is the only president in American history to resign from office in 1974 due to the involvement in the Watergate Scandal. In 1972, during the president's election the Democratic National Committee Headquarters located at the Watergate complex in Washington D.C. was burglarized by five men; one of whom believes had previous affiliations with the C.I.A. All men were charged with felonies of burglary and possession of implements.
The thriller "All the President's Men" focused on how two journalists, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, of the Washington Post investigated the scandal. Bob Woodward was first assigned to cover the Watergate break-in at the courthouse, but when he learnt that Howard Hunt an official of President Nixon's election team and former C.I.A agent might have a take on the burglary Carl Bernstein was assigned to the story as well. Bob and Carl's first attempt to publish their report was turned down by the editor and urged them to get more information. Bob decided to contact an anonymous, trusted, government official he has used in the past that went by the name "Deep Throat". Deep Throat and Bob would meet during the late hours of the night in a parking garage. Deep Throat encouraged Bob to come with the information he had and was willing to help keep him on the right track, but one valuable piece of information that Bob got from Deep Throat was "Follow the Money". After a few weeks of searching, Bob and Carl found a connection to President Nixon's re-election campaign. Money was being transferred to the burglars, and other government officials accounts in lump sums to cover personal expenses and to help with destroying the Democratic candidates especially when Democratic nominee George McGovern was ahead in the polls.
Although, President Nixon's might be looked down upon for his involvement in the Watergate Scandal that makes the highlight of his presidency and the fact that he left his men and women in the Vietnam War for number of years before pulling them out causing many young people to retaliate against government he did have some positivity to his presidency. President Nixon had interest in international affairs and because of that he has open communication and trade with China making them our number one producers in this century.
