New Day; New Me.

In my mind, I feel like the world is against me and that as a young African- American female I cannot reach the goals I would like to reach without it being a constant battle. In my mind, I wonder what it would feel like to become a Caucasian woman. As I wake up every morning, I do my basic routine; I pray and thank God for waking me up to see another day, despite my obstacles. After that I get prepared to go to my job as a manager at a major corporate business. But today, I woke up with a different outlook. I felt more relaxed, and I had so much passion and drive in my heart. I had a feeling something was different, so I pondered for a second, but I couldn't figure it out. so, I just went about my day. As I entered the office, people seemed to look at me awkwardly, like there was some type of glow or something. As I headed to the morning meeting, people were still looking at me funny, so I decided to ask my assistant, who seemed to be under some type of daze, if there was something going on that I needed to know? She calmly responded in a whispering tone that I appeared to look like her. I looked at her like she was going crazy, but she seemed very serious, so I took her advice and look in the mirror. As I walked into my morning meeting, I had a different outlook on everything, people no longer looked at me as that nappy- headed black women trying to rob their job. Instead, they looked at me as the white women trying to get ahead and help the company succeed. I was so excited I felt accepted because people truly listened to my ideas and suggestions, and they didn't give me that look people give you when they think that you are trying to be a show off. After the meeting, I was invited to lunch by one top manager, and all I could think about, was I only invited because I appeared white. When I appeared black I was always looked over. I quickly erased the thought from my head so I could enjoy my new life. As I sat with the manager, many of the top male managers gave me a harsh look, which I didn't expect since I received the same look as a black woman. I received the look whenever I came up with an idea that was better than theirs. At that point in time, I realized that Caucasian women also go through discrimination when it comes to moving up the corporate ladder. As I sat talking to one top manager, I couldn't help but to feel tense with all eyes on me. As a black woman, I never drew so much attention. It was a shocking but great feeling. Finally, lunch was over. I went back
