Take-A-Stand Essay: Technology Is Getting the Best of Us

We need to take a stand and say enough is enough; technology is affecting how we live our daily lives. Nowadays you see people updating their Facebook while talking on the phone and playing Playstation. Technology also has advanced a lot in the work places; people have lost their jobs due to technology. The world we see nowadays wouldn't be recognizable to past generations; we spend too much focusing on technology. If you were to ask about Facebook to your grandparents, they would reply my face does not look like a book. We should stop focusing too much on technology, before we become robots ourselves, and spend some time with Mother Nature.

It looks like we are becoming robots, because technology surrounding us. Technology gets a hold of us as soon as we wake up in the morning. "We awake with the sound of the alarm clock. We look at the time. We check our phones for missed calls and messages. We check our email and networking sites. We microwave or cook a breakfast. In the early hours of the day, we are already exposed to multiple forms of technology" (Baxter). We have become so obsessed with technology that we may even cause death to innocent people. People are driving, nice and clam, but as soon as they hear their phone ring with a: phone call, text message, new e-mail, new wall post on your Facebook, or even a new tweet on your Twitter, they get distracted and crash. The use of cell phones while driving has gotten way out of hand that they had to make a new law; you will receive a citation by police, if they see you using a cell phone while driving. The use of technology is getting the best of us.

Technology can affect us in many different ways; it doesn't necessarily just have to be our social lives. There has been such a progression in technology, for work places, that people have become unemployed. "If you've been to the supermarket lately, you've noticed that many of the checkout lanes have been automated. Similarly, many clerks at banks have been replaced with machines. Whereas most people were familiar with the inside of a production facility, nowadays many people are not due to the facilities being almost fully automated" (Baxter). If technology keeps progressing a lot more, for work places, soon the machines will do anything us humans can do.

On the other hand there are a lot of people that say, technology is making the world a better place. Some say "with the inventions of the technological miracles such as computers and mp3 players, there are no excuses to be bored" (Baxter), but why not just go to a park and play some sport. There are other activities you can do, that don't involve technology, which will keep you entertained.
