In China, there have about more than 10 million of the Manchus and Manchu is the 3rd largest nationality in China. However, UNESCO decided Manchu is a "Critically endangered" language. "Critically endangered" means that the final step in the language extinction. I have three reasons to prove that why Manchu is a endangered language.

First of all, Manchu's children stop learn their first language. Right now, Manchu's children all speak Mandarin and study Mandarin in school. This is a big reason why Manchu become a endangered language. Second, Chinese government promotes to use Mandarin. China have 56 different nationalities. They always choose speak Mandarin because it is easily to understand and government promotes to use Mandarin. Therefore, Mandarin is like "world language" in china and make many minority nationalities give up their native language in China. Manchu is not exception. Finally, if you want to study Manchu, this is very difficult in China. Some people want to learn Manchu but they can not learn because there are do not have any Manchu's school. If you want to learn Manchu you must find the linguist teach you. That is impossible for common people.

Nowadays, How to save Manchu is a hot question in China. In my opinion, I think when we want save Manchu, the government should make a policy to protect Manchu, the government should give enough capital to research Manchu and the government should establish a museum of Manchu. I know Chinese government try to do many things to save Manchu language but if they really want to save Manchu can not rely on slogans, they need more actual action.

Right now, maybe have about 1000 people can understand Manchu and only have about 100 people can speak and write Manchu. That means maybe after 50 years, Manchu is gone. Therefore, we should protect Manchu because Manchu belong to all human and Manchu is a wealth of literature for our future generations.
