Elie Wiesel said himself, "anyone that witnesses an atrocity, or an act of inhumanity, and does nothing to stop it, is just as guilty as the person committing the act. Those who know and remain silent are guilty of the same offense. To stand by silently is to participate in the crime." I agree with his judgment, because in today's world there are many injustices committed every day and there are also many people that witness these injustices without saying anything, or doing anything to stop it or prevent it from happening again.

As a present example one highlight of 2012 was the trial of Jerry Sandusky; this was a perfect example of inhumane acts happening and witnesses going on with everyday life as though nothing had been seen. It turned out that he was found guilty for his crimes and the quiet witnesses were fired from their job for not reporting what they had seen. A past example would be the Holocaust. Millions of innocent people had lost their lives for the pursuit of one man's idea of the "perfect" race. I think if everyone would have came together, Hitler and his tactics could have been stopped before innocent people lost their lives or were left without their families. An every day example would be bullying. Bullying can happen anywhere, in the work place and especially at school in every grade. I feel as if this is the biggest problem and that many people ignore it instead of doing what is right and trying to prevent it.

I think everyone should read this quote from Elie Wiesel and also be taught about the Holocaust. They should ask themselves if they watch inhumane things happen without doing anything about the situation besides watching it happen.
